(32211) Communicating with Parents and Carers

Effective communication with parents and carers is essential to support children with allergies. Schools and settings should work in partnership with parents to ensure they have accurate and up-to-date information about each child’s needs.

Every child’s experience of allergies is different, and symptoms can vary. Children may have different triggers, show a range of reactions, or have additional medical conditions, such as asthma, which may increase the risk of a severe reaction.

Parents and carers can provide valuable information about their child’s allergies, including how a reaction may appear and what support is needed.

This information should be used alongside medical advice and reflected in the child’s care plan where appropriate. It is also important to recognise that a child may not yet have a formal diagnosis. Any suspected allergies should still be taken seriously, and appropriate precautions should be put in place.
